Studio Production - Creating the first Vine

Creating the first vine was quite challenging, the idea was simple and shooting took no longer that 15 minutes. The idea was to have a green screen and in front of it a sofa that will be in the show, on the sofa I paced a orange pillow. This was really easy to put together, after that I put it into after effects as I was going to place the logo in the background and place a question mark on the pillow. Then I made it all have some movement, for the start I zoomed into the pillow with the question mark. I then created some swinging words "#WhatsYourSay" to appear which took me a while to get round it but finally with the help of youtube. Finally to finish it off I made the sofa disappear and the logo from the back spin and zoom out until you the full logo is revealed then a "Coming Soon".

Overall I found the idea and creating quite easy as it was a very simple idea and very easy to shoot as I shot it at the studio in a controlled environment. The effects took me a little longer as I learnt a new skill with the swinging words, and it took me a while to perfect the green screen. However if I were to do it again I would up a light behind the sofa to made it look more 3D on camera as it looked a little flat so I had to put a little shadow behind it on After effects to make it look a little more 3D. Another thing is that the idea ended up being a bit too simple and a little, little boring however I still need to find music to go with it.

I found 2 composers on Music network pro and they are going to send em some music ideas for the jingle for the vine.

Studio Production - Teaser Feedback

I sent both scripts to producer Helen and she really liked teaser 2 and said that it has the right amount of suspense to intrigue viewers into watching the show. When I showed teacher Helen she liked the same one and said that the concept is really clear, she agreed that it was too long and needed to be shorter as it would be the same as a trailer. So we decide to make it around 15 seconds. Helen then added if I added the panellists into it. She said when the presenter is asked what he could bring to the show that I do a little montage of him and all the panelists answering the same question then a shot of them in the studio with all the lights on them. I'm not too shore that if i'll have time to fit it in however I will consider it.

Overall from the feedback I am confident that everyone like the idea and I have the relevant information to make the right and effective changes that I need to the script so that I can finalise it and film by next week.

Studio Production - Ideas for Teaser

I have written two scripts for possible teasers;

This is my first idea, I need to show it to teacher Helen and production Helen for feedback so that I can develop on it. I think that it's a little too long for a teaser and that I need to clarify what my message is and how I describe people and things in the script to be more clear.

My second idea is;

This idea is a little too simple and might be a little boring however I need to show both Helens for feedback.

Studio Production - My jobs in the Promo Team

As the editor in my group, it's my responsibility to edit everything that my group produces, however I don't have much to do now as everyone are in the pre production stages, which leaves me with nothing to edit. Due to this I understand that I can't just sit and do nothing until I need to edit, so I took on a few extra role to keep myself busy;

Firstly I took over one of Charlie's role on creating the weekly Vines for the programme, this intends me to scripting, producing and editing weekly vines about the show as tiny teasers leading up to the launch to the show.  I have created the first vine, just a little intro to the show and where it's airing. Today I went through with my group and Helen some ideas for other vines that I should do, we came up with this list;

To do a vine for each of the discussion topics in the show;

gratify montage Street art v proper art

Drum and bass v  classical

Coming soon

For this one the idea behind it, is to show a montage of street art with up beat music and compare it to a montage of classical art with classical music. At the end have a sign saying "Is gratify art?"

Body image

film ruby photoshopping someone (Time Laps) and at end coming up

For this idea, it was to have a simple time laps of someone being photos hoped to the max and at the end having a sign saying, "Is photoshop good or bad?"

Politics

Vote card

3 boxes

1- old people votes
2- middle age people vote
3- teenaged vote

first two ticks and third cross

Why don’t we vote

For this the idea is to have someone walking into a voting box, then seeing a voting card and on the card there will be three boxes and next to the first box it will say, "Seniors vote", next to the second box it will say "Middle age people vote" then next to the last box it will say, "Teenagers vote". Then the person will tick the first two boxes and cross out the last box and place the card in the voting box. The on the voting box the words, "Why don't young people vote?" will appear.

Domestic Violence
guy walks in boxing arena then walks out of house with black eye
The idea arena this is to have a man walking into what looks and sounds like a boxing arena, after the bell goes he walks out of a normal house with a black eye. Then the words, "Domestic Violence" come up.

Another role that I have is to do a short teaser for the show, I will be writing a script for a 15 second teaser that will interlink with the longer trailer.

Studio Production - Interview for Roles

Today was our interviews for what role we wanted for the production, I applied editor/vision mixer. During my interview I handled it very well as in the question I was asked I answered them and other question they had in the same answer leaving them a little speechless. I did my research and knew what I was talking about when referring to vision mixing and being an editor as a whole. I told them about the previous experience I'd had at college with vision mixing and editing for a number of years.

Studio Production - Applying for Roles

Today we all had to apply for our roles in the production, this was quite a hard and scary process as loads of people wanted the same. We all had to put a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice for roles that we wanted to do. For my first choice I switched it between Promo editor and VT editor but in the end I put VT editor as 1st as there were only Ruby and I who chose it and it was Ruby's 3rd choice so I figured I had a good choice. I put promo editor as 2nd, however it was the job I wanted the most, but a lot of people went for it. Finally 3rd choice was second VT editor and production assistant, I didn't mind this job however on the day I would be an assistant and have nothing to do with editing, but in the other choices on the day I wold be vision mixer and that's what I wanted.

Hope fully during my interview tomorrow I will get the job that I want, I need to do some research in vision mixing just to enhance what I already know as I did it in college, however I want to show Helen and Simon that I know what i'm talking about and will know what i'm doing on the day.

StudioProduction - The Chosen Idea Brief

The chosen idea was Helen Welsh's talk show idea. I was a little gutted as I got a bit too into my idea and wanted to go forward with it a little more, however I wasn't that bothered as I really want to be the editor, which I will be applying for, for all of my roles.

What You Sayin

StudioProduction - The Pitch

Today was PITCH day, everyone had to go and pitch their main idea to Helen, Simon and Laura. I decided to still go ahead and pitch my kids show which I have called The Koala House. I handed out a small synopsis and pilot shoe teaser to hand out to them and I created a powerpoint to present my idea in full.

During the pitch I was very relaxed which I think helped with how I presented my idea to them, this was the first time they had properly heard this idea. I delivered my powerpoint first to tell them all the aspects of the show then I waited for questions. The question were quite simple and straight forward and I think I answer them with good clarity.

Overall I think the pitch went quite well as I presented and told them everything I wanted to and they seemed quite impressed with my idea. However I wish I would have wore the full pilot on the hand out as they asked me to tell them how it ended and I didn't tell the story as good as if I wrote it. Also they were a few little points about the concept benign a little like bugs bunny, which I didn't think so however I think I got round that.

Studio Production - Final Idea for TV Show

Today I cam dup with another idea for a TV which I think I will present to Helen, Simon and Laura. The concept is a kids TV show, in which a koala and his friend have fun and adventures whiles leaning life lessons and how to handle them in a good manor. There would be a lot of camera interaction as the characters would be "speaking" to the viewers at home getting them involved. I wrote a pilot show to hand out at my pitch along with a powerpoint, which is how I will present the idea to them.

The pilot show has 5 characters in it;

  • Mr Koala - The main, who goes through the adventures and helps viewers understand how to deal with life problem in the right way.
  • Mike - Mr koala's friend who helps him will his journey and learns all the lessons of Mr koala.
  • Mrs Baker - The chef in the show, also she is an older wiser view in the adventure and help Mr Koala and Mike learn their lessons.
  • Henry Hunter - The bad guy in the show, he wants to hunt and catch Mr Koala and take him away.
  • Bill - A farmer in the show, he is a side character who helps Mr Koala and Mike throughout part of their adventure.
I  the pilot show Mr Koala and Mike have to find a way to make Henry Hunter their friend and stop hunting Mr Koala, the message for the show is how to resolve difference with another person. They come up with an idea to bake him a pie to show that they want to be friends.

Overall I am very pleased with how this idea has come together, and I hope I empress Helen, Simon and Laura, as I would like to take a different role in the production and be the producer.

StudioProduction - TV Show Ideas - Feedback from Helen

Today I went over my ideas with Helen for her critical feedback. I started with my main idea of the comedian stand up battle show. Straight away she told me about a previous show which the uni did which had the exact concept, she told me all the difficulties they had and how the show was a complete disaster and that I show change the whole concept if I wanted the show to work. She when let me watch the show and I thought it was really bad mainly based on the host and contestants, as they might of been funny in a pub or to their friends, however they couldn't keep the show going and they jokes were appalling as they were only students and not full time comics. This was a mater set back for me as this meant I had to scrap the whole concept and start all over again.

I then told her about my second idea for the debate show about technology, she thought the idea was good however that I would need to research on the subject and try to find a key point to talk about as the topic was quite vague. Another point she made was that I would need to look for a expert on the subject to come on the show to give an expert opinion or facts about the subject.

Overall from today this made me think hard about what I could do as my main idea was shot down and my second idea I wasn't keen on doing. I need to go over what Helen's critics and think about another show. I think I might play around with an idea that Helen gave me about creating a children's show as she was very keen on someone doing one as she told me about the studio being famous for children's shows. I will need to look more into it to see if I can create something to put a show together.

StudioProduction - Creating a TV Show - Development

First idea - Stand up comedian battle show.

Idea of the show;

The show would be 2 or 3 stand up comics that will go head to head in 3 round with different challenges. The winner will be decide by either the host or the audience by most votes.

1 Host - This would be a funny and cleaver host would will cheer on the contestants and the audience and know how to move on a topic or round if getting a little dry.

Contestants - 2 or 3 funny stand up comics, will have to be good at interaction with the audience and be funny.

All contestants and host will be hand picked for their roles based on it they for fill the requirement above.

Rounds;

There would be 3 round throughout the show, 2 warm up rounds, before the ad break and 1 final round after the ad break as a decider round.

Round one;

As the opening round this round need to tell the audience who the comedian is and what their like. Before the contestants come on to the show, they would each have a VT of themselves doing something that they like to do (Talent) and after all of them the audience of host would vote on who's the best is.

Round two;

After the audience are introduced to the contestants, they will then under go a head to head round decided by the big wheel. The wheel will be spun, on the wheel they will be a number of different categories, e.g. personal, most embarrassing or best event. Whatever the wheel lands on the each comedian will have to do a 2 min set based on their chosen subject.

Round three;

The final round has to be the best round of the show. During this round there will be some VT's which will show a scenario that is or has happened in the world and the comedian has to improvise and do a 5 min set on what was just shown.

After all the rounds are finished the audience do there final vote and the host tots up the final scores and reveals the winner to the audience by raising their hand.

Second idea - Debate show about Technology

This show would have a host and 4 panellists who would debate about if technology is making us more advanced or elite.

They would be 4 VT which will show something to do with technology, i.e. showing a girl walking while on her phone then hitting a pole as she wasn't looking where she was going. This would create a point for the host and panellist a topic to discuss.

Studio Production - Creating a TV Show Ideas

We have been asked to come up a few ideas for possible TV shows for this unit. The person won's ideas get cozen will be the overall producer for the unit and show.

I thought about what TV can I create and came up with this list;
  • Comedy Show
  • Talent Show
  • Debate Show
  • Talk Show
  • Kids Show
  • Drama
  • Soap
Helen said that she didn't want us to do a talent show, so that ruled that out. From the list I straight away looked at doing a comedian talent show as thats a big interest of mine when it come to TV shows. I would want to do a show were we would take some unknown stand up comics and make them battle against each other in a series of rounds to see who the funnies is.

Another idea which I will look into is for a debate show. I not too sure of which topic/s which will be discussed or if it would be a discuss or debate show. A few ideas are either a debate show about how technology has made us better and worse in sociality. Another idea would be to have a talk show which would discuss new and upcoming world events in the news.

I haven't thought about the possibility of any other type of show but I will look more in to it. However overall I have a few strong ideas I just need to develop them further and show them to Helen for feedback so that I can make the best pitch ever and impress the judges.
