Digital News Production - Filming the Presenter Scene - 1

Today we filming the presenter scene for the beginning of the news show. Charlie was on sound, Ruby on camera and I directed, be a directed is something I might want to follow in the future so it was nice to be in the position so get some experience. We struggled to set up the lighting, as we kept on casting a big shadow behind Samantha, we overcame this by casing the shadow as low as possible so that when we framed our presenter the shadows wouldn't show on camera. We took loads of takes with different angels and frame sizes. I learnt from this experience with green screen, that it is very important to come early to set it up as it took us 1 hour into our filming time.

After we viewed the footage and put into after effects to see what it would look like, Ruby and I noticed that Samantha was fuzzy around her. We tried to fix the problem by cutting around her, but this only led to her looking all chopped up and pointed at the edges. We came to the conclusion that wee need to re film the scene.

Over all I learnt that we need to learn how to properly light a green screen and the actor at the same time without casting shadow. Also to check footage back after the takes and check if it's good enough or if we need to re shoot.
