Digital News Production - Graphics - Creating the Green Screen

Today I started the graphics for the green screen news room, I knew this would take long so i got everything i needed before starting like all the pics and logos and footage. I started first but uploading the desk into Photoshop;

With the desk in photo shop i could then stars to change it, Ruby helped me with colouring the desk into a dark wooden colour. I then cut out the desk so it was a single layer, this would make it easier on after effect to place it in, resize it and add in the logo.

I then added in the TV screen on top of the bigger screen of the set. I then made it green screen so that I could put in footage for the coming up parts of the shot.

I then placed a layer of wood for the middle of the table for the logo to go on. I placed it behind the table and added the logo on top in a central position.

I then added the background picture to the big screen in there background, a picture that charlie took himself. Ruby and I cropped the picture down to size and placed it in the background. I then added text to the little screen with our news names, so that people know what were castled and just incase the logo is too small to read. I then made Samantha smaller and placed her behind the desk, i had to cut round her to remove any dark patches and fuzziness. I then cut round the table to make the edges smother and the colour sharp. The set is complete.

Overall I am very proud with the set as i have never done something like this before. I am happy how everything came out and that i had no major complications that Ruby couldn't help me with. I then exported this and placed it into the timeline in final cut pro.

After this i put it on the time line, i cut the part that i want a video to appear in the small screen and imported it into after effect. I did this with 3 clip ad i wanted this to happen twice, once when she introduces kent life int he coming up part, the second when she introduces the lodge hill story and the third when she introduced the kent life story.

In after effects it was quite simple but time consuming, i made the kent nature news text disappear and then green screened the small tv screen. I then imported a little clip i made for these parts and added them to the green screen. I added key frames for when i wanted the videos to come on and disappear again.

After completing i re-imported them into final cut and placed them back in to the time line.

Overall I am very pleased with the outcome as again i have never done this before and did so with not a lot of help just a bit from Ruby. If i were to do it again i would make sure that the video lines up perfectly in the screen as its a little bit off but hopefully not noticeable. Also I would make the clips longer and give sSamantha more to say. This would have looked nice and the viewers can appreciate it more.
