Fiction Adaptation - Cast

I have received a low number of application throughout out the time my adverts have been live, I've had two 3 adverts up online; on Casting Call Pro, Star Now and Mandy. Firstly Mandy was a big waste of time as nothing come out of it and I couldn't view my profile. Casting Call and Star now were helpful, however the main problem with trying to cast any actor is PAYMENT, as I wasn't paying them it was very hard to find a good actor who had time for unpaid projects and who didn't let me down the minute a paid job came along. However from this I still managed to find a couple of actor interested in the film and my roles.

For the role of Darren I had a couple of interests, out of these 3 applicants, I declined one right away as they didn't match what I wanted for the character, which was a bit of a mistake, even though I got a good actor for the role, but If I would have give him a shot he might have been really good. With the other 2 I arranged for an audition for the role.

David came to him audition and did rather well and I was considering him for the role, but I wanted to see what Neil could do first before making my decision. Neil sent me a video auction, which I was so glad he did because it was horrible and that wold have been awkward if I had met him. He made my decision very, very easy, from his poor performance. I chose David for the part of Darren and think that this is a good decision and I will not regret it.

For the role of Ruby I had a lot of interests from applicants, however when I pursued them most of them either didn't reply or dropped out. I was left with one Hayley Riby, who came along to an audition and did really well. I decided to give the role and would let her know about the filming dates as I still needed to find a main role. After a while I asked her to meet for filming on a Tuesday and she told me that she couldn't do weekdays, even though in her auction she told me she was relatively free most of the time. This set me even further back as I was filming in the next couple of days and had an actress drop out.

Jennifer Done, auditioned for Ruby Rogers film and was successful in getting there role, I was also impressed with her performance and asked her if she would help in my film and be the role of Ruby. She gladly agreed to be a part, this made it much easier for me as I could start filming on schedule and not fall behind.

For the role of James (David's friend) I didn't get any applicants for so with this I asked Charlie Ansel to play the part, he happily helped and filmed with me. However after the filming day I saw that there was a problem with all the footage from that shot, and came to the conclusion to film it again. Charlie couldn't help this time around so I turned to Chris Sarmiento, who agreed to help me with the scene.

For the role of Doctor Brain, I only got 2 applications for him, Klemens and Paul, I messaged them both about auditions. Paul never got back to me and Klemens dropped out due to a paid job that came his way. This left me with very little option and I really didn't want to ask someone I knew because everyone was busy with their own project and I won't know when they would be available and it would be hard to balance their time schedule and the actors. I the end I decided to play the role myself, as it was a very small role and I would be the most relabel as it's my project.

Final the role of David, I had a lot of trouble with this role, I had many applicants;

 From these applicants I messaged them all plus many, many more which I selected myself. Only half got back to me, then out of them all but 1 either couldn't do it because of money, travel or other jobs. With the last applicant Malcolm, I called him and had a chat to talk about the role, he was very interested and would help me out. However he told me that he would need his travel paid for or he wouldn't come, I looked at the costs and it would cost me about £150 for his travel. I had to tell him that I couldn't cover it and he dropped out. I was considering doing the role myself, however Helen was very agents it so I went looking fro a last hope.

I came across Julian, he was interested in the role so I set up an audition for the part of David and I liked what I saw. He wasn't exactly what I imagined for the role of David, but he saw good enough for the part.

In conclusion, I need to make sure that I post adverts for actors way, way in advance for an film I'm doing, in order to get more applicants.  Also I need to give more people who I don't think fit the role a chance as I never know if their different in real life or if they end up fitting the role in their auction. Also I think in my 3rd year I might introduce a small payment for my actors as this will attract more and stop them from dropping out.
